| WHAT DO YOU PRAY FOR...WHEN YOU PRAY? |
||||||||||||||
Welcome to The Cup and the Glory website. We continue to upgrade the website a little at the time and hopefully will get to the point of doing a monthly blog and other matters as they unfold. We also continue to marvel at the great things God is doing with our quite simplistic business model and utter folly to many: praying that God would bless this book going forth and asking people to pass it on to someone they think needs it. It is incredible to me where the book has already ended up (about 140 countries) and the beginning of the various translations. We delight that God shows forth that this is by no means done according to “the wisdom of man” but rather “the wisdom of God.” You can find many of these under the “What’s New” heading of this website. In its simplest form, The Cup and the Glory is a book about walking with Jesus in true discipleship. As was true the original disciples of Jesus, what this entails so often differs from what and how we think things should happen. We see this repeatedly throughout the book as the Master Teacher patiently teaches and conforms His children into His own image and often uses trials and suffering to bring about His divine purpose. James and John asked that they might sit in His glory; Jesus responded with the requirement of a cup to be drunk and a baptism with which to be baptized (Mark 10:35-38). Nothing has changed for His true disciples over the centuries, including present day ones; the same is true for us. You do not have to pursue suffering; you pursue walking with the Shepherd, and as you do that, you will eventually find what the cup and the baptism are for you—and you will be eternally changed in the process. As you will see as you read related matters in this site and the workbook, Jesus used suffering to lead me into this lifetime study of His glory. As James and John, I was asking about sitting in His glory. Jesus unexpectedly answered my prayers—as He has and still does with so many others—by things that we do not want, expect, or desire. He calls us to The Cup, The Road, The Gift, and The Fellowship. He calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. It is a walk by faith, but by no means is it a walk alone, even though it may seem that way to us at times. And by all means, He calls us to His glory. I hope this will be a most fruitful study for you. To God be the Glory! |
